Scout was adopted by a wonderful family today. It truly is an ideal situation. Blake and AJ have a 2 year old Great Dane (Apollo) who is an energetic but submissive male. He loves to play, but doesn't like dogs who go over the top. AG and Blake were looking for that perfect brother for him and were having a tough time until they found Scout. The introductions went very well except for the fact that they are huge dogs that wanted to meet each other... so, once determined safe, we took them off leash. They explored each other for a few seconds and immediately launched into playtime, playing chase, tug-of-war, and chase-tug-of-war. There was no aggression from either dog around toys, people, the water bowl, or food. The rough play never escalated to sore feelings on either side. AJ and Blake were very aware and conscientious of both Scout and Apollo's behavior. Inside the house, Scout and Apollo continued to be connected to each other to the point that AJ and Blake didn't really see the affectionate side of Scout. That will be a nice surprise for them when the realize that the perfect playmate is also a perfect snugglepup. Because Apollo is so big, they have a dog door that could serve a shetland pony. I thought this might intimidate Scout because he was initially scared of our Breeze-sized dog door. Quite the opposite, though... after being shown where it is, he started using it immediately and reflexively went to it when left out back. AG and Blake both work, so they have a walker who comes and cares for Apollo. This will be a nice service for Scout. I do think both dogs will also benefit from being together during the day and will have burned some energy through no human means each and every day. I would have no concerns around leaving them alone together, but I did suggest to AG and Blake that they start with controlling the amount of "house" the dogs have as long as there's access to the dog door. They said they can certainly do that and close off rooms and such. They also are familiar with the approach of "thinslicing" the departures/alone time to get them staged for longer stretches alone. These two know what they're doing and treat their dogs like their children. It's perfect. AJ and Blake will take Scout to the vet w/i two weeks, cut him over on food, and were generous in donating beyond the standard dog adoption fee to RESCUE. I mentioned the adopter picnic and told them we'd love to see them and the dogs next year. Brent |

In Scout's short time at RESCUE, he's managed to become one of our most popular dogs. Scout is one special puppy - he's super sweet and so gentle! He'll greet you by giving you a big hug and a gentle lick. When we rescued Scout, he was underweight and sadly you could see his ribs underneath his beautiful white coat. Scout may have had a rough start to life but that hasn't change his gentle and beautiful spirit. He's a silly boy who is constantly making our volunteers laugh. He's very well-mannered and loves going for walks. In just a few days, he learned how to sit for treats - he LOVES treats! Scout is searching for an active forever family with another young active dog in the household and parents who will are willing to spoil him rotten but also a home that will be patient with him through his puppy phase! He's hoping to find a mom and/or dad who will take him on long walks, buy him stuffed animals, and feed him lots of yummy, healthy treats. He may be a big boy but he's a snuggler! He has so much love to offer and is just waiting for that special family to come along and give him the life he's always deserved! |
Adult home only. Kids above 7 years (i.e. they have some impulse control). Someone who is home a majority of the time. |
