Toby and Bailey
We were planning on writing, but have been so busy. We posted a few pictures of him (and Bailey) on Friday afternoon - you can see them at https://www.haziest.com/Toby/.
My sisters and parents came down to meet him yesterday and he handled everything very well. We are trying to keep him around the house so he learns it is his new home. They both seem pretty even keeled about each other so far - no jealousy yet.
Hmm. The only other item is a poop in the house. He seems a bit stubborn about being directed to the side yard and held out on us all day until he could get a free minute alone in a bathroom. But this morning after refusing to go but while still in the yard, he got excited about a dog barking and ran around and went where he was supposed to on his own. So we are pleased, baby steps!
Thanks for checking in. We were quite scared Friday over the microchip thing. We do find it curious that he has a chip and it was never registered. It would seem if the shelter did it before you took him, they would have transferred the paperwork to you. Makes us wonder if he has been in before or something.
If you think his foster parent would enjoy the photos, please pass on the web address. Thanks again, Diane and Mark (and B and T!)

I think we have Toby figured out with his housetraining. It took some weeks, but we discovered that he likes to pee on bushes. (and you might remember our back yard is bare). To accommodate him, we hope to pull the drip line through from the front and get a bush planted in the dog area soon. Now that we have him peeing regularly, he is doing the other in the back with regularity. He isn't sleeping as much now either; he still sleeps a whole lot, but not quite as much. Holding everything in must have been tiring! We were happy that he got a clean bill of health, as we were worried, but all is well.
He also seems to be relaxing a bit, showing more of his personality. Well, I mean his ears seem more expressive. And, either as a result or just b/c of time together, I am starting to understand what he wants more.
No one is happier than Bailey though. I think we are feeling what parents go through when their kids are growing up. Bailey needs us a whole lot less now - he gets so much from Toby. He did have a point where I think he realized Toby wasn't leaving and seemed more concerned about attention T was getting, but when he butts in he quickly shifts his focus on us to T. He can't get enough of him.
We feel very lucky with our two dogs. Thanks. Diane and Mark

Tyler has been re-named Toby. Diane was on her way out and did not have a lot of time, but she wanted to make sure we knew that they really, really love Toby. (Of course she prefaced everything else she had to say with this). Toby has apparently been a handful. She said he is a sweet boy and has made Bailey, (his older brother) so happy! The two play endlessly, and then collapse in utter exhaustion and snuggle together on their bed. The challenge they have had is that Toby has different motivators and behavior, but they are getting used to it. The biggest difference from Bailey and their last dog, was that they were highly motivated to please whereas Toby is all about fun, food, and personal happiness. She is working to make him realize that their happiness and his happiness can be the same thing. Diane is very patient which is a must with him. He still has challenges pottying outside at times, so she has to stand out with him until he does his business, otherwise, he would just do it once they got in the house and she wasn't looking. So many of his antics are funny , she says, if you remember to see the humor in them! Ahhhhh .life with a Beagle. (She can t say I didn t warn them! )
They also promise to send pictures soon, and will be in touch. They say, Thank you, thank you! to RESCUE, and wish everyone here a wonderful holiday season!
